Accelerated Reader Quizzes by Reading Level Accelerated Reader or AR is a reading tool we use at Stanford to monitor students’ comprehension of the books they check out in the library. Each student is tested using the Star Reading Program. Hey are then assigned a reading range to help them practice reading and become better at it. We color code the books in the library by reading ranges to help students select appropriate library books. Students take AR tests on their books and their teachers with the help of the librarians monitor their progress.
AR is an effective tool to assist students to become better readers because students get so excited about their books. They read and test and are constantly challenged to become better readers. Teachers like AR because it helps them to individualize reading instruction.
We are currently in the top 10 performing Nashville Elementary Schools in reading. Our goal is to be the top performing school. AR is one tool we are using to help get there.
